Investment in new equipment and research to drive innovation in 3D semiconductor structures
Chipmetrics Oy is scaling new heights with significant support from the ELY, the Finnish Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The company’s latest project PAKKA, running from January 2024 to June 2025, focuses on expanding its service offering by enhancing its ability to measure and model both optical and physical phenomena in thin films. This new initiative comes with project backing from ELY to the tune of €255,159, which will strengthen Chipmetrics’ position in the semiconductor industry.
Cutting-Edge Imaging Ellipsometry Equipment
A key part of this project is the acquisition of advanced imaging ellipsometry equipment, which will enable more precise and efficient thin film measurements. This state-of-the-art technology will help Chipmetrics dive deeper into the analysis of 3D semiconductor structures, a crucial area in modern semiconductor manufacturing. These enhanced capabilities will allow the company to provide even more value to its global customers in product development and quality control.
Boosting Research and Service Capabilities
The project aims to not only expand Chipmetrics’ technical infrastructure and in the longer run its overall service offering, with the new equipment benefiting the Joensuu photonics ecosystem. With improved equipment and refined measurement methodologies, Chipmetrics will be better equipped to model and analyze complex thin film phenomena.
“This investment is a key milestone for us. The new equipment and improved modeling capabilities will help us take our expertise to the next level and deliver even greater precision and quality to our customers worldwide,” comments Jussi Kinnunen, General Manager at Chipmetrics.
Positioning for Global Leadership
This project is part of Chipmetrics’ broader strategy to become a global leader in thin film metrology for the semiconductor industry. With support from the ELY, the company is well positioned to grow significantly in 2025, benefiting the Joensuu region. By pushing the boundaries of 3D semiconductor structure research, Chipmetrics is reinforcing its position as a vital player in the global tech ecosystem – proving once again that world-class innovation thrives in Joensuu.
